As I create these ‘tree portraits,’ I’ve come to see that each eucalypt carries its own presence, a distinctive personality, as though it holds a quiet but powerful character that speaks to me.”
Gum trees hold a special place in the hearts of Australians. Their name comes from the distinctive sticky sap, known as kino, that feels gummy to the touch. For thousands of years, Aboriginal people—the First custodians of this land—have revered these trees, believing them to be a bridge between the physical and the spiritual worlds.
Today, the fresh and unmistakable scent of eucalyptus is recognised worldwide, yet its roots are uniquely Australian.
