The reason why I painted this artwork:

I began this painting with the idea of drawing another Angophora tree, curvy, and nurturing (one of my favourite species of gum trees).

I imagined this special tree standing strong watching over a waterhole and nestled within the bushland. I wanted this waterhole to be cradled by rocks, and thriving plant life, creating a beautiful cove. A place that is private and safe, a place to see your loved ones, past and present.

As this painting evolved, something unexpected happened. Little characters began to reveal themselves—first just one or two, then more, as each new layer brought hidden shapes to light. A curve here, a shadow there… suddenly a figure would emerge, almost asking to be seen. I followed their lead, letting them come to life on the fabric.

—Unfolding naturally, with its own story to tell, I simply followed the magic!
